The New Balance 2002R Year of the Ox has suede uppers that are colored with a few subtle colors.
A dark olive tongue is layered over a silver-toned "New Balance" branding at the top of the shoe. To match the suede uppers that make up the majority of the uppers, the laces below this are black. The sidewalls feature a striking "N" logo that contrasts with the "2002R" branding that is stamped along the back quarters. A smooth black "NERGY" midsole provides support and comfort, and cream-colored nubuck trims the toebox and heel tab to finish off the uppers. Other details include the OX-shaped graphic printed on its insole.
