The Air Jordan 3 is most famous for its iconic "Elephant Print" design but in 2011, the Air Jordan 3 "Black History Month" edition changed it up for the first time. When Tinker Hatfield originally designed the Air Jordan 3 and presented it to Michael Jordan in an effort to keep him from leaving Nike, the Elephant Print around the toebox and on the heel of the AJ3 was one of the things that caught MJ’s attention. The BHM Jordan 3 however, used Black History Month inspired graphics in place of the famous Elephant Print making this version one of the most uniques Jordan 3 designs of all time. 2011 was a big year for BHM sneakers. In fact, prior to that, there wasn’t much of a collection, it was more like a sneaker or two to represent Black History Month. Leading the charge in the 2011 BHM footwear collection was the black and gold Air Jordan 3. The nubuck upper with hints of leather, synthetic and suede, featured Metallic Gold contrasting stitching, Metallic Gold Jumpman logos on the heel and tongue and BHM graphics that looked strikingly similar to the lasered graphics found on the Air Jordan XX. This simple, yet effective combination of colors and materials made the 2011 Air Jordan 3 "Black History Month" one of the most sought after releases of 2011 and it still remains high on wish lists to this day.
