The glow-in-the-dark Reebok Kamikaze II "Acid Rain" earned its nickname thanks to the rain of Seattle and its color-changing upper. Originally released in 1995, the Reebok Kamikaze II is one of Shawn Kemp’s signature models from Reebok. Kemp became known for his high-flying dunks as a competitor in the dunk contests during the 90s. Despite never winning the contest, Kemp and his sneakers are most remembered for his posterizing dunks as a member of the Seattle Supersonics. With Seattle’s notoriously wet and rainy weather, Kemp earned the nickname, The Reign Man. When Reebok decided to finally bring the Kamikaze II out of the vault in 2013, the retro variations were plentiful and one of the ones that stood out the most was the glow-in-the-dark version often called the "Acid Rain" or "Kryptonite" colorway. The Acid Rain Kamikaze II features a combination of glow-in-the-dark, neon yellow and black, making it one of the brightest colorways of Shawn Kemp’s shoes. What makes the synthetic and leather of the design really stand out is the entire upper (minus the toebox), is glow-in-the-dark. When the early photos of this release hit the blogs, it wasn’t obvious just what sections of the shoe would glow but when the glow-in-the-dark photos arrived, it was apparent that the Reebok Kamikaze II "Acid Rain" was meant to turn heads.
